The ceremonial function to welcome President's Counsel Yasantha Kodagoda as the 47th President of the Appeal Court was held today (May 06).
Mr. Kodagoda who was previously serving as the Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General's Department was appointed as Appeal Court President on March 28.
The newly-appointed Appeal Court President in his inaugral address condemnded the recent terrorist attacks and insisted that cases must be filed against the perpetrators of such crimes. He also pointed out that the responsible authorities must take steps to prevent such terrorist acts from taking place.
Further, he assured that he would implement a special mechanism to expedite the process of cases being heard before the Court of Appeal.
Bar Association of Sri Lanka President Attorney Kalinga Indatissa and Acting Attorney General Dappula de Livera were also present during today's ceremonial function.
