A 20-year old youth along with his father surrendered before the Trincomalee Harbour Police today (Apr 16) for killing his friend - another youth, over an alleged romantic affair.
The suspect had murdered his friend in the vicinity of the Trincomalee Navy Camp while accompanying him on a motorcycle. Investigations have revaled that the suspect had slit the throat of his friend while riding pillion thereby causing the bike to topple over.
A team of police officers led by Inspector A.G.A. Jagath had immediately commenced investigations and had confiscated the knife and the motorcycle which were used in the incident.
Navy personnel who were on duty in the camp at the time of the incident had rushed the victim to the Trincomalee General Hospital. However, the youth had died upon admission to the hospital, police said.
The victim has been identified as T. Danushtan, a 20-year old resident of Trincomalee Court Road.
