The controversial Batticaloa Campus in the East cannot be acquired by the government even under the Emergency Regulations, former Governor M L A M Hizbullah said yesterday (Jul 30).
Hizbullah, the founder of the campus, made these remarks at a press briefing which was held to clarify certain matters about the educational institution.
During the briefing, the former governor noted that the administration of the campus had submitted a report to the cabinet sub-committee which had been appointed to study the matter, outlining their willingness to work with the government.
However, he claimed that this report had not been discussed in cabinet.
Hizbullah also refuted the report submitted on the Campus by Prof. Ashu Marasinghe, the Chairman of the Parliament Sectoral Oversight Committee on Education and Human Resources.
He also dismissed remarks made by Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thero in this regard.
