A resident of Vavuniya had his house up in flames, after he accidentally poured petrol into a coconut oil lamp in front of religious statues and lit it up, Police said today
The situation was aggravated as a stock of petrol he had stored, expecting a possible shortage of fuel due to the crisis in the Middle East too had caught fire.
The incident took place in the Bandarikulam area.
Most part of his house and furniture was destroyed in the fire.
