Australia thrashed England by 111 runs in a Pool ‘A’ match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 played at Melbourne today (14). Put into bat Australia posted 342-9 and skittled out England for 231 55 deliveries remaining. Opener Aaron Finch smashed 135 runs off 128 deliveries inclusive of 12 fours and three sixes while Glenn Maxwell (66) and skipper George Bailey (55) hit half centuries. Maxwell’s 66 came off just 40 deliveries inclusive of 11 fours while Bailey faced 69 deliveries for his 55 which had three fours. Steven Finn picked 5 for 71 as Stuart Broad claimed two scalps. In reply England collapsed midway after losing wickets at regular intervals despite a fighting knock from James Taylor. Taylor remained unbeaten on 98 off 90 deliveries inclusive of 11 fours and two sixes when he ran out of partners. Mitchell Marsh picked five wickets while Mitchell Johnson and Mitchell Starc shared four scalps. Finch was named the man-of-the-match.
