The Sunday Times journalists secured seven awards at the Journalism Awards for Excellence - 2023 held at the Mount Lavinia Hotel this evening. This was the 25th anniversary of the awards,
Deputy Editor (Investigations) Namini Wijedasa won two awards - Investigative Journalist of the Year and Prof. Kailasapathy Award for Best News or Feature using RTI (Right to Information).
Nadia Fazulhaq won the award for Best Health Care and Medical Reporter of the Year (English).
Kasun Warakapitiya won the award for Environmental Reporter of the Year (English).
Tharushi Weerasinghe won the Upali Wijewardene Feature Writer of the Year award (English).
Senuka Jayakody won the Denzil Peiris Young Reporter of the Year award.
The Sunday Times received the award for Best Designed Newspaper of the Year. (English).
The awards are organised by the The Editors’ Guild of Sri Lanka in partnership with the Sri Lanka Press Institute.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
