Update : Shramantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha, sentenced to death for murdering a Swedish teenager at the Royal Park housing complex in 2005 has been granted presidential pardon today (Nov 9) and was released from Prison.
Prisons Commissioner General T.M.J.W. Tennakoon said yesterday they received a Presidential Secretariat document granting a pardon to the convict.
Shramantha Jude Anthony Jayamaha, sentenced to death for murdering a Swedish teenager at the Royal Park housing complex in 2005 has been granted presidential pardon today (Nov 9), Sources.
The accused had been convicted over the murder by the Colombo High Court in 2012.
Recently, President Maithripala Sirisena said he would consider granting presidential pardon to Mr Jayamaha since he had served his term on good behaviour while completing his doctorate in prison.
Prison sources said that he had left the Kuruwita prison where he was detained this evening.
