In a major initiative to make Bodh Gaya, the seat of Budhha's enlightenment noise free, the notification declaring entire Bodh Gaya township as a no horn area would be implemented with effect from Thursday, the Times Of India reported.
Earlier, the Bodh Gaya Nagar Panchayat notified the place as no horn zone imposing a total ban on the use of horn by two wheelers, three wheelers and four wheelers.
Thousands of visitors from different parts of the world including Europe and America throng Bodh Gaya between October-March looking for spiritual solace and piece. The high noise pollution level has been identified as a major irritant for the peace seeking visitors to the place identified with Buddha's enlightenment.
According to Magadh Range DIG Ratn Sanjay, the ban on use of horns would become effective on zero hours on Thursday. For the first two days the violators of the horn ban notification would be let off after counselling to abide by the rules.
From day three onwards, i.e. Saturday onwards, the violators would be penalised for the offence. NGOs and school children are being involved to make the horn ban a success, said the DIG. Ratn Sanjay hoped that the ban would make visitors more comfortable.
The use of horns including pressure horns and playing of loud music on three wheelers, tractors and sundry other vehicles was an anachronism in Bodh Gaya and it has to go, said the DIG.
