The Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship 2022 saw conclusion of the second round with Kaya Daluwatte clear of her field in the Girls Gold & Silver division combined with another excellent five under par round of 67 for a two round Gross aggregate of 138, 18 strokes clear of her nearest rival Dhevinka Kanag-Iswaran on 156, and ahead of Sherin Mithara Balasooriya, a further 4 strokes behind on 160.

In the Boys Gold Division Open K. Dhanushan extended his lead to six strokes with a well compiled even Par round of 71.

Yannik Kumara’s 72 gave him second place just 2 strokes ahead of Nirekh Tejwani in 3rd place with the Championship title poised for an exciting finish in the 3rd Round.

Reshan Algama went further ahead of the Silver Division field in the 12 – 14+ Age Group category returning a consistent 2 over par and a two-round total of 141. The battle for second place is much closer between Thejas Rathis Kanth and the youngster from Anuradhapura Adithya Weerasinghe trailing Thajas by just 3 strokes.

Competitive Golf has created much excitement among the junior golfers and the debutants in the Copper division in the 9 & under age group category Minehli Herat and Richard Magala among others returned consistent scores in the second round as well.

Revaan Amarasinghe with a 41 in the nine holes maintained his lead by six strokes in the Copper Division, with a two-round aggregate of 80, six strokes ahead of Yvan Rathis Kanth on 86 and Danik Daluwatte on 93 in 3rd place. The final round is sure to provide an interesting close finish in this Copper division.

In the Bronze Division 10 - Age group category of 11+ Boys & Girls ‘combined’ consistent Kaitlyn Norton took the lead from L.G. Anuja Methsara of Anuradhapura Academy. Kaitlyn 1 stroke behind after round 1 has established a seven-stroke lead with Saqeeb Zuhair returning an 85 the best score in the Bronze division for Round 2 to tie for second place with the day one leader Anuja Methsara. The final round is sure to provide an interesting close finish in this division as well with the players closely matched. 

The final round continues on Thursday, 22 December and will be followed by the Prize Giving at the RCGC Café on the 8th, organized by Sri Lanka Junior Golf.
