Sri Lankan athlete Anwar Saheeb has been bought by Tamil Talaivars for the Pro Kabaddi 2021 season at the player auction held on August 30.
Four Sri Lankan kabaddi athletes were on the list to go under the hammer, but only Saheeb earned the call from the South Indian team for a whopping sum of Indian Rupees 1 Million.
In addition to Saheeb, Lahiru Kuruppu, Asiri Sandaruwan and Aslam Thambi were listed in for the auction, but none of the teams came forward to bid for the three remaining Sri Lankans.
In addition to the only Sri Lankan, 12 athletes from Iran, eight from Bangladesh, seven from Kenya, three from South Korea, two each from Nepal and Malaysia and one each from Japan and Thailand were listed to be auctioned to join the Pro Kabaddi 2021.
The Indian Pro Kabaddi competition includes 12 teams and the eighth installation of the professional tournament will begin from December 20 this year.
The competition will be held under a league system, after which the final stages will be held during end February and early May in 2022.
In the previous seven editions held, Patna Pirates have won the Pro Kabaddi title twice.
Bengal Warriors, Bengaluru Bulls, Jaipur Pink Panthers and U Mumbai have won the title once.
Other teams in contention are Debang Delhi KC, Gujarat Giants. Haryana Steelers, Puneri Paltan, Telegu Titans, UP Yoddha and Tamil Talaivars, who ended the previous season last.
