Former Sri Lanka cricketer and respected sports administrator Roshan Mahanama has stepped down from his role as a member of the National Sports Council (NSC) with immediate effect.
Mahanama was appointed to the Council for the term 2025–2028 by letter dated 14th February 2025 and formally accepted the position on 20th February 2025. Announcing his resignation, Mahanama stated that he was reluctantly compelled to discontinue his role due to personal reasons. He also reiterated that, as outlined in his acceptance letter, his continuation of the Council was subject to the progress made by the NSC in achieving its objectives.
“I strongly believe that if I am to hold such a position, I should be able to work in the best interest of sports at all times to achieve the objectives of the National Sports Council,” he said. Mahanama further emphasised that his decision should not be misconstrued as a lack of commitment to Sri Lankan sports, stressing his continued willingness to assist and support the sporting community in other ways. He concluded by expressing gratitude for the opportunity to be associated with the Council and extended his best wishes to the Chairman and members of the NSC for continued success in the future.
