Rugby: Joes thrash Sri Sumangala

Sport

Jaguars in Joes clothing turned up at the CR&FC for their final fixture of Round 1, injected with shots of arrogance, whose shipment was delayed by a few weeks, possibly owing to the delays in the shipping lines, completely overpowered the opponents during the full seventy minutes of the game, without even giving themselves a break, or cutting the visitors any slack whatsoever, to totally annihilate a much-improved Sri Sumangala College unit.

This was a crucial game for St. Joseph’s College, who went on to record a thumping 67-7 win, in order to get themselves into the Plate Segment in the next round, hence a win was inevitable.

However, they were up against a Sri Sumangala outfit who were much superior in some aspects of the game. Summa’s improved pick and drive skills earned them two tries in their last game against a strong Thurstan College defence.

The ability to steal the ball at the tackles like monkeys stealing bananas, with exceptionally super quick grabbing skills, with which they stole the Ball a couple of times, while also extracting four ‘holding on’ penalties from the opposition, solely in their last game. Summa’s success at the lineouts in their last two games outweighed Joes with two turnovers and just a solitary crooked throw, whereas Joes have messed up five due to poor hooking, in the absence of turnovers.

Hard tackling techniques that forced six knock-ons in Summa’s last two games. Enhanced rugby instincts that is capable of improvising in order to capitalise on emerging opportunities, was observed to be much superior to Joes’.

The only flaw that was hindering their progress was the high offenses count which they managed to curtail in this game, but in spite of all of these factors, Joes’ sudden awakening and rising up to depict a tall and colossal beast, was way too much for the rising Summa rugby to comprehend.

Joes played their finest dominating game of rugby since last season on this day, with few errors that empowered them on a campaign of sheer rampage rugby, that was more suited for the Cup Segment. It is a dire shame, that the shipment of the arrogance vials was not air shipped. The visitors conceded three tries due to their own errors, but the rest of the seven were orchestrated by the aggressive rugby that was brilliantly executed by the hosts, to score up to five pick-and-go tries.

Although Sri Sumangala managed to curtail their offenses to 11 in this game, Joes’ total count was a miserly five, which is their lowest offenses tally in this League. Out of the 11 Summa penalties, three were forcibly extracted by some lightning-quick ball stealing skills by Joes. After scoring their only try in the former half, Sumangala’s valiant efforts in attacking were thwarted by some gruesome tackling that forced four knock-ons, and a series of gushed rush defences that were seldom so menacing in this League thus far.

Moreover, the visitors’ courageous attempts in trying to stop the atrocious Joes’ onslaughts, only delayed the hosts’ advancements, but was not strong enough to stop them. Joes mercilessly ransacked Summa 67-7 eventually.
