After being dominated for one-and-a-half days in the second test, Sri Lanka fought back courtesy to their opening wicket partnership of 95-runs, and finishing the second day on 143 for 2 against Bangladesh.
Their skipper Dimuth Karunaratne led by example remaining not out on 70, and his partner, Oshada Fernando, though dismissed, walked back with a 51, including a six.
Bangladesh resuming on a resounding state of 277 for five down, at Mirpur, unlike the opening day, failed to stay and play.
Kasun Rajitha, picking up a five-wicket haul, also separated the overnight batter, Litton Das, who was removed on 141. That also ended a remarkable recovery by the hosts sharing a 272-run revival.
Mushfiqur Rahim remained high and dry on 175.
Coincidentally, as many as nine wickets were shared between pacies - Rajitha and Asitha Fernando.
