Shanaka, Karunaratne back in T20 side Former captain Dasun Shanaka and bowling allrounder Chamika Karunaratne have been recalled to Sri Lanka's T20I squad for the upcoming three-match series against Bangladesh. Also included is uncapped right-arm quick Eshan Malinga, while Dunith Wellalage returns after missing the New Zealand tour.
Shanaka last represented Sri Lanka in July 2024 but has maintained form in franchise cricket, notably with Dubai Capitals in the ILT20 where he excelled as a lower-order finisher during their title run. Karunaratne, absent since November 2023, has focused on domestic cricket since being dropped.
Malinga emerges as Sri Lanka's latest pace prospect following impressive IPL 2025 performances with Sunrisers Hyderabad. His 13 wickets in seven games at 18.30 average ranked third among SRH bowlers, despite playing half the matches of leading wicket-takers Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel.
The squad boasts strong batting depth with Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, and Avishka Fernando among top-order options. Wanindu Hasaranga leads the spin attack alongside Maheesh Theekshana, while the pace battery includes Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwan Thushara, and Binura Fernando.
The series begins July 10, with subsequent matches on July 13 and 16, offering Sri Lanka opportunities to integrate returning players ahead of major tournaments.
