In this day and age of women empowerment and leadership, two Sri Lankan female match officials – Michelle Pereira and Nimali Perera – scripted their own history when they became the first two Lankan ladies to officiate in the ongoing Women's World T20, in South Africa.
Accordingly, in the Trans-Tasman encounter on Saturday, Michelle, functioned as the match referee, and her fellow female official Nimali, stood as an on-field umpire.
Only recently and coincidentally, Vanessa de Silva, recorded another first for the country, becoming first-ever Lankan lady umpire to officiate as a match referee in the U19 Women’s World T20.
