Selection trials for the 21st Asian Games will be held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium in Diyagama on May 9 and 10 starting at 7.00am on each day. It is interesting to note that over 800 athletes in the national level so far confirmed their participation for the trials. G.L.S. Perera, Vice President/Media Secretary of the National Athletics Association stated that the participation of a large number of athletes of national level is an indication of the keenness of the athletes to regain the lost glory in international athletics. Selections will be made according to their performances and a special attention will be paid to the seven members selected by the Asian Athletics Association for Asian Grand Prix based on their last year’s performances. The AAA is expecting them to improve their performances at these trials. Selections will be made for the Women’s 400x4 relay event and Men’s 100x4 relay events. All the participants will have to undergo a doping test before the meet is a must at this event. The AAA is expecting a high and improved performances by the athletes as their main ambition will be to end the international medal drought that the country is facing for some time. From June 3 to 7, the 21st edition of Asian Games will be worked off at the Chuhun City in the Republic of China.
