The Amateur Athletic Association of Sri Lanka (AAASL) has named a squad of 14 athletes despite receiving a quota of 20 from the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC) for the upcoming Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia.
After the conclusion of the 96th National Athletic Championship at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo, many athletes came up with impressive performances, but surprisingly many of the famed athletes have been left out in the present selection.
The AAASL has ruled out the Men’s 4x100m relay team, a Men’s 1,500m athlete and one long jumper, who had been named earlier in the selections while naming the latest 14.
Among the names who had been left out are sprinter Himasha Eshan, who recorded an impressive 10.41 seconds to break the meet record in the Men’s 100m, Vinoj Suranjaya, who is recovering from an illness, Men's 1500m runner Hemantha Kumara, long jumper Danushka Piyaratne and Olympian Sumeda Ranasinghe.
