Veteran marathon runner Wimalasena Perera has been reappointed as the Chairman Selection Committee of the Athletics Association of Sri Lanka (AASL).
His appointment has been approved by the Minister of Sports Harin Fernando.
Perera was the Chairman of the previous Selection Committee as well and now he will function as the Head until 2020.
Meanwhile, former Sri Lanka women’s sprinter Ineka Cooray and former veteran Sri Lankan athlete and retired DIG, N. A. T. Jayasinghe are the two new faces in the five-member Selection Committee.
They have replaced two former members Sumith Dalpathado and Patrick Saparamadu.
The first assignment for the new Selection Committee will be to pick the Sri Lanka Squad for the 23rd Asian Athletics Championships with the final trials scheduled to take place on March 22 at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The new selection committee: Wimalasena Perera (Chairman), N. A. T. Jayasinghe, Manoj Mallawarachchi, Ineka Cooray and D. A. Dayaratne.
