The 21st Travel Trade Sports Club Badminton Championships 2016 sponsored by Serendib Leisure Hotels for the sixth year will take place on Sunday (4) at the S. Thomas’ College Indoor Sports Stadium, Mt. Lavinia, commencing 9.00am.
For the first time, the tournament will be conducted on an Open Team Championship basis a "tie" consisting one Men’s Single, one Men’s Double, one Women’s Single, one Women’s Double and one Mixed Double; additionally, the Veterans Tournament, on a new format for Men’s O-40 and Women’s O-35, also on a Team Championship basis, a ‘tie’ consisting one Men’s Single, one Men’s Double and one Mixed Double.
Up to date the following 20 teams have confirmed participation:
Sri Lankan Airlines, Serendib Leisure Management, Habarana Village, Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Gateway Airport Garden, Seeduwa, Walkers Tours Leisure Inbound, Metro Travels, Aitken Spence Travels, The Kingsbury, Jetwing Travels, Citrus Waskaduwa, Mermaid Hotel, Kalutara and Green Holidays (all participating in the ‘Open’ and ‘Veterans’), Paradise Beach Hotel, Negombo, Viluxur Holidays, Luxe Asia, Traveler Global, Holiday Plan and Diethlm Travels (all participating in the ‘Open’ only).
In the previous tournament held in May 2015 at the same venue, Hotel Topaz Kandy from McLarens Group won the Men’s Open beating Citrus Waskaduwa and they went on to lift the Women’s Championship, beating Serendib Leisure. Sri Lankan Airlines won the Men’s Veterans tournament, beating Kingsbury.
Hotel Topaz, Kandy will be a notable absentee this year.
