Big Match: St. Anne’s beat Maliyadeva by 31 runs in One Day encounter

St. Anne's College beat Maliyadeva College by 31 runs in their 21st annual 'Battle of the Rocks' Limited Overs cricket encounter played at the Welagedara stadium in Kurunegala on Monday (14).

St. Anne’s put into bat were bowled out for 267 runs with 12 ball remaining and in reply Maliyadeva were wrapped up for 236 runs with 37 deliveries to go. 

Tharinda Wijesinghe top scored for St. Anne’s with a 44-ball 50 which included three fours and four sixes while Pubudu Ganegama and Vimukthi Bandara hit identical knocks of 40 each. 

Ganegama and Bandara were featured in a partnership of 61 runs stand for first wicket as Wijesinghe got together with Kavindu Ranasinghe to add 70 runs for the seventh wicket. 

Sri Lanka Under-19s cap Damitha Silva took four while Kaveen Bandara claimed three scalps.

Despite an elegant knock of 95 off 92 balls from skipper Damith Perera, Maliyadeva could not go past the winning post as they lost wickets at regular intervals. 

Perera hit 11 boundaries and two sixes during his knock and went on to add 59 runs for the sixth wicket with Kaveen Bandara, who made 27.

Perera went on to add another partnership with Sanjaya Wanninayake as they were featured in a 59-run for eighth wicket while Pubudu Ganegama claimed three wickets for the winners.
