St. Joseph Vaz College Wennappuwa recorded an easy 10-wicket win against traditional rivals St. Mary's College Chilaw in their 9th annual Fraternal Battle Big Match encounter which ended at Chilaw on Wednesday (7).
St. Joseph Vaz batted first and declared at 328-9 after late knocks from Shashan Fernando and Avindu Shehara, who put a record partnership for the ninth wicket.
St. Mary's were bowled out for 161 runs in reply and in their follow-on bowled out again for 171, leaving a simple target of five runs for St. Joseph Vaz.
St. Joseph Vaz grabbed all four individual awards on offer as allrounder Avindu Shehara was picked as the man-of-the-match while Shashan Fernando (best batsman), Nipun Dananjaya (best bowler) and Navod Yohan (best fielder) claimed the rest of the prizes.
