St. Sylvester's College comprehensively defeated Vidyartha College by 5 wickets to annex the M.E.D. Madiwaka Trophy for another year in their annual Limited Over Cricket match at the Asgiriya Stadium on Saturday (24).
Vidyartha’s early batting collapsed and it was left to tail-enders Chathuranga Dilshan (30) and Dunidu Imasha (20) to put up a score that could be a challenging one.
The Sylvestrians, in reply, also ran into rough weather and were at 51-5, chasing 131.
However Nirmalan Pavithran who made a hundred in the Big Match two days ago, rescued them once more with an elegant 49 ball knock of 50.
Nimsara Attanagala who made 35, partnered him in an unfinished sixth wicket stand of 80.
Vidyartha College 130 all out (42.2) (Chaturanga Dilshan 30, Dunidu Vimantha 20, Medunaka Wijethilaka 17, Pasan Hettiarachchi 3/25, Nadeera Balasuriya 2/21, Nimsara Atahragalla 2/31)
