Nuwan Duminda of House of Fitness triumphed at the Southern Province Bodybuilding Championship and went on to bag the Robert Rupasinghe Memorial Trophy.
Next to him were L.H. Dinesh Kumar of House of Fitness and B.H. Madushanka of Uyanwatta Sports Club won were placed second and third respectively.
The contest was conducted under the supervision of Sri Lanka Body Building Federation (SLBBF) under age categories and weight categories of 60, 65,70,75,80 and over 80 kilogrammes.
Winners of the respective contests qualified to take part in Robert Rupashighe Memorial Championship finals.
The annual Bodybuilding Championship was organised for the by L.S. Jayawardena with more than 60 participants from the Southern Province.
Patricia Rupasinghe, the wife of late Robert Rupasinghe graced the event with Presidents of Robert Rupasinghe Sports Foundation, Dulip Rupasinghe and Thilakaratna Fernando, former and present officials from Sri Lanka Bodybuilding Federation also making their presence felt as special guests.
The late Robert Rupasinghe is one of the finest bodybuilders Sri Lanka has ever produced.
A four-time national champion, Rupasinghe, hailed from Wadduwa and was attached to the Sri Lanka Air Force.
He finished second in the whole of Asia in the Mr. Asia Contest, held in Sri Lanka in 1969.
He passed away tragically at the young age of 28 in a road accident in 1976.
