The Sri Lanka Men's National team won the 7th Carrom World Championship 2016 in Birmingham, England beating title holders India in the final.
Skipper Chamil Cooray led the Sri Lanka team beating Indian R.M. Shankara 25/8 and 25/12 while World Champion Nishantha Fernando thrashed D. Sandeep 2-1 to lift the side up.
Fernando lost the first set to 16-21 but bounced back strongly to claim the following two sets by 25/1 and 25/15, sealing the Men's team World Championship.
Mohamed Sherrifdeen was defeated by A. Riyaz 0-2 after conceding the sets by 7/25 and 4/25.
Sri Lanka beat Italy 3-0, Germany 3-0 and hosts the United Kingdom 3-0 in the first round and trounced Maldives by 2-1 in the quarter-final.
Meanwhile the Sri Lanka women team had to sign off as runners-up to India in the final.
