Former captain Angelo Mathews, who stepped down after Sri Lanka's disastrous ODI defeat against Zimbabwe, was reappointed as ODI and Twenty20 captain at a special media conference held at the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) headquarters in Colombo, a short while ago today (9).
Mathews captained Sri Lanka from 2013 to 2017 in Tests, ODIs and Twenty20, but after Sri Lanka's 3-2 loss to Zimbabwe in a home series, he stepped down from the captaincy in all three formats in July, 2017.
In Tests, he was succeeded by Rangana Herath and later Dinesh Chandimal and in ODI's by many with Upul Tharanga and Thisara Perera being the latest.
According to SLC sources, Mathews will continue to captain Sri Lanka until the ICC 2019 World Cup after lengthy discussions had with the newly appointed Head Coach, Chandika Hathurusingha.
