Sri Lanka’s most successful medium pace bowler Chaminda Vaas will be opening a Cricket Academy in Sharjah for budding young Schoolboy Cricketers.
The former Sri Lankan pace ace has teamed up with a Sharjah based Businessman Sunil Mustafa, in this venture and will open the Vaas–Victoria Cricket Academy on December 4.
The Cricket Academy will have the support and co-ordination of his brother Rukmal Vaas who is based in Sharjah and is expected to have around 60 schoolboy cricketers from the surrounding schools at the inception and with the potential to train around 250 students.
Vaas who has over 750 wickets in test and one day career that spanned over one and a half decades is the latest high profile Sri Lankan Cricketer to offer his services outside the island.
Aravinda de Silva a former Sri Lanka captain has also recently formed a Cricket Academy in Dubai with the help of three promising young, Sri Lankan Coaches Naveed Nawaz (former Sri Lana Under 19 Coach), Ruwin Peris and Sampath Perera (Former Trinity and NCC Coach).
Former Sri Lanka Cricketers Chandika Hathurusingha, Ruwan Kalpage and Mario Villavarayan are all part of the current Bangladesh national coaching staff.
While Sri Lanka keeps scouting for quality Coaches and trainers, the Country loses some of the most experienced names as none of them wish to work with Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) as the institution is believed to be highly politicised, and alleged to be corrupt and thereby discouraging honest and highly respected former cricketers of rendering their serve the Country.
