The Matara District Cricket Association together with Sri Lanka Cricket’s coaching staff in the Southern Province held a coaching camp at Vijitha Central College Dikwella to identify talented youngsters below the age of 15.
This is the first of three such zonal coaching camps which are to be held in the Matara district.
SLC’s coaching staff demonstrated the correct fielding, bowling and batting techniques with eyes open for players with natural talent.
Prasanna Galappaththi (Chairman) and Priyantha Uyanahewa (Secretary) of the Coaching and Advisory committee of the Matara DCA and Lasitha Suwanderathna of the Matara DCA’s selection committee were present to identify talented players.
It is hoped to establish an under 13 and under 15 squad made up with the players who catch the selectors eye and will be invited to attend regular coaching programmes and gain on field experience through practice matches to be played between the zonal teams.
