Cricket: England Lions beat Sri Lanka 'A' by 195 runs

A dismal performance by the local batsmen put Sri Lanka 'A' in a disastrous position as England Lions won the first Unofficial Test by 195 runs at Pallekele on Monday (20) and gain an early 1-0 lead in the two-match series.

The home team, set to chase 365 for victory were bundled out for 169 runs after the England Lions made 316 and 215 in their respective innings. 

Sri Lanka 'A' responded meekly in the first innings by scoring 167 runs. 

Sri Lankans failed miserably in their batting besides opener Udara Jayasundara who showed resistance with a fighting knock of 64 off 166 deliveries, which included five fours and three sixes.

The next best knock of 20 ff 24 balls came from Dhananjaya de Silva while others failed to impress. 

In the first innings of Sri Lanka 'A' Sandun Weerakkody top scored with 68 off 73 balls inclusive of 10 fours as tailenders Dilruwan Perera (37) and Malinda Pushpakumara (26) came in late with impressive knocks. 

The second and final Unofficial Test will be played in Dambulla from Friday (24) to Monday (27) before both teams meet for a five-match Unofficial ODI series beginning from March 2.
