Chandika Hathurusingha, the former Sri Lanka cricketer, one-time Shadow Coach and current Head Coach of Bangladesh has tendered his resignation to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Thursday (9).
It is learnt that Hathurusingha has been disappointed by the action of certain players of the Bangladesh team, who claimed to have made contradictory statements to the media, criticising him.
The former Sri Lanka opener's resignation comes at a time when his name is aligned as one of the top contenders to take over the Head Coach's position of the ailing Sri Lanka side.
The BCB is yet to confirm if it had accepted Hathurusingha's resignation note.
Hathurusingha had been approached by SLC on numerous occasions earlier but he had not shown interest until the recent development.
SLC last week employed Thilan Samaraweera as Batting Coach until 2019.
Samaraweera was under Hathurusingha as the Bangladesh Batting Coach before moving to the Sri Lanka coaching setup.
Hathurusingha served as Shadow Coach of the Sri Lanka under Trevor Bayliss after coming out with productive results as Sri Lanka 'A' Coach.
He was tipped to succeed Bayliss as Head Coach, but the then Interim Committee under D.S. de Silva terminated his services on disciplinary grounds.
Hathurusingha then migrated to Australia and took up a post as Assistant Coach of New South Wales from where he moved to Bangladesh.
