Speedster and former Sri Lanka captain of ODIs and T20s, Lasith Malinga is likely to retire from international cricket according to sources close to the cricketer.
Malinga, who is currently in India appearing for Mumbai Indians in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), has drafted his letter of intent to retire from international cricket and will probably hand it over to the officials of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) today (18) according to sources.
The reason behind Malinga's retirement from international cricket has close connections with the decision of SLC to appoint Dimuth Karunaratne as the ODI skipper on Wednesday (17).
Sources further revealed that SLC Chief Selector, Ashantha de Mel had explained to Malinga over a telephone conversation on the reasons why he was replaced by Karunaratne as the ODI skipper.
SLC officials were at a discussion when contacted to clarify on Malinga's decision to retire from international cricket.
