Former Sri Lanka skipper and ace batsman Mahela Jayawardene will join the England cricket team as batting consultant according to foreign reports.
Jayawardene had earlier expressed his willingness to help Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), mainly junior cricket, after his retirement from internationals earlier this year.
He was granted an honorary membership in the present SLC interim committee by its chief Sidath Wettimuny, who was impressed by Jayawardene’s plan on revamping the domestic cricketing structure.
But the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) indicated its interest in having Jayawardene in their camp, not as a permanent employee, however.
According to reports his first assignment with England will be their tour to the UAE for the Test and ODI series against Pakistan which begins come October.
