Play between Sri Lanka Board XI and England at the NCC ground in Colombo, was suspended for a short while after local player Pathum Nissanka sustained a blow to his head, fielding at short leg.
The incident took place today (31) as Nissanka was fielding at short leg at the time England batsman Jos Buttler pulled off-spinner Nishan Peiris and stuck the close in-fielder.
Nissanka had ducked to avoid a possible collision of the ball to his head, and he was wearing a protective helmet.
But the fielder had collapsed to the ground soon after he was hit on the head.
The English medical team rushed to the scene but Nissanka had remained unmoved where he fell for over 15 minutes.
Eventually, the England medical team, headed by Moiz Moghal, took Nissanka out of the field on a stretcher, after placing a neck brace.
Sources say the player had not lost consciousness, but had complained of a neck pain.
Initially, the incident turned out to be delight as the ball travelled to Angelo Mathews at leg slip, after hitting Nissanka's helmet, and Buttler was given out.
But the situation changed after Nissanka fell on to the ground and remain unmoved.
Nissanka was taken to a hospital and play resumed after a break of 20 minutes.
