Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has come to a decision to scrap the intended Under-23 Inter-Club Division I 3-day Cricket Tournament.
According to reliable reports SLC is contemplating in substituting it with two tournaments -- One Day and Twenty20s.
The SLC earlier was planning to initiate an Under-21 Provincial Tournament but after almost all of the participating clubs made its stand clear by stating they are unable to find players for the age category, who are mainly school leavers.
In place of it, the SLC came up with a Under-23 3-day championship but eventually it too was decided to call off due to different opinions.
Unlike in the previous years where 14 teams took part in the Division I tournament a total of 24 teams will take part -- 14 Premier Clubs and 10 Emerging Clubs.
The tournament will be played in four groups and will kick off in the latter part of July.
Last season's joint champions Moors SC and Tamil Union will be among teams competing alongside Colts, SSC, NCC, CCC, Bloomfield, Army SC, Badureliya CC, Ragama CC, Chilaw Marians, Saracens, Galle CC, Sri Lanka Ports Authority, BRC, Police SC, Navy SC, Lankan CC, Air Force SC, Kurunegala Youth CC, Kalutara Town CC, Kalutara Physical CC, Panadura SC and Moratuwa SC.
