Cricket: SLC sends Nuwan Soyza on compulsory leave

Following the ICC charge on Nuwan Soyza under the Anti-Corruption Code, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has decided to send him on compulsory leave with immediate effect.

When the charge by ICC was brought on, Soyza was working as a bowling coach at the SLC.

"In the meantime, Sri Lanka Cricket has started work towards establishing a fully-fledged anti-corruption unit in the country," an SLC statement said.

"Already SLC held two dialogues with the International Cricket Council to seek its support towards this move."

"As another forward step, the Competent Authority of the SLC, Kamal Pathmasiri; SLC CEO, Ashley de Silva and Deputy Solicitor General of the AG’s Department Sumathi Dharmawardena will travel to UK; in the near future; to meet the UK’s Chief Prosecutor; to discuss the modality of setting up such a mechanism in Sri Lanka."

The Minister of Sports, Faiszer Musthapa has assured SLC that he will work towards introducing tough anti-corruption laws in Sri Lanka.

"Honorable Minister is constantly engaged with the SLC on this matter and is of the view that setting up a prudent anti-corruption mechanism in Sri Lanka is vital for the future of the game."
