Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) stated that it will announce the One Day International (ODI) captain on the January 9, the following Tuesday.
"This was decided following a discussion held on Wednesday (3) at the SLC Headquarters at Maitland Place, over the appointment of a white-ball captain to lead the Sri Lankan side into the future," an SLC press release stated.
The meeting had taken place with SLC President Thilanga Sumathipala, Vice President in-charge of International Cricket K. Mathivanan, CEO Ashley de Silva, Chairman of Selection Committee Graeme Labrooy, Sri Lanka team manager Asanka Gurusinha and Chandika Hathurusingha, the Head Coach of the team.
"During the discussion, the Chairman of Selectors informed that they are considering appointing either Angelo Mathews or Dinesh Chandimal to fill the role," the SLC statement added.
