Lanka Sportreizen (LSR), a leader in water and nature based sports activities such as the LSR Colombo Marathon, 'Rumble in the Jungle'- Mountain Biking Challenge, ' Vittel Amazon' Adventure Challenge, 'SriLankan Pro Surf- WQS' International Surfing Event, has planned to hold a Cycling Event for professionals keen on Racing Cycling.
Travelling around the world for promotional purposes, It has been witnessed that Cycling is one of the most popular activities resorted to by many tourists irrespective of age, to travel around the world.
In an effort to introduce a new event of mass appeal, to promote Sri Lanka as a destination for recreational activities, and in the process enjoy the beauty of Sri Lanka, and get to know the lesser known areas of Sri Lanka in a “Coast to Coast” exercise spanning from East to West.
The event known as the T-Cup, will run from Passikudah on the East coast to well-known Negombo on the West coast. Hence it will be a “Coast to Coast” Exercise.
Day 1, April 7- 140 km: Passikudah (Start) to Mahiyangana, via Welikanda, Dimbulagala, Pallegama, Dehiattakandiya and Girandurukotte.
Day 2, April 8- 80 km: Mahiyangana to Kandy, via Hasalaka, Udadumbara, Hunnasgiriya, Rambukwella, Orutota, Kirimetiya and Mahaiyawa.
Day 3, April 9- 120 km: Kandy to Negombo, via Katugastota, Galagedara, Mawathagama, Kurunegala, Narammala, Giriulla, Pannala and Dankotuwa.
The Event is open to all National and Club teams and it is expected to limit the participation to 100 competitors, of which a little over 50 % will be for foreign riders.
LSR intends to offer Rs 3 million (US$ 20,000) as total prize money, from the 1st place to 20th.
The estimated expenditure is Rs 18.5 million.
Being the inaugural year, LSR will host all the participants, providing them with accommodation and transport, while the SriLankan Airlines will assist them with a concessionary Airfare from their online points.
