Cycling: Entries called in for SLT Speed Up Rally

Entries for Sri Lanka's most valuable and longest Cycle rally, the SLT Speed Up Rally, are now on according to the organisers Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) and the Cycling Federation of Sri Lanka (CFSL). 

The 5-day Cycle rally is hopeful of attracting the country's top riders with a total prize money of over Rs 4 million on offer. 

"SLT calls upon all passionate Cyclists to join in the country’s longest cross-country Cycle race scheduled to begin on July 27. The SLT Speed Up Cycle Sawariya, will be a 5-day event from Colombo to Batticaloa, amidst an array of colourful events planned by SLT, to add extra excitement to the much-anticipated event. We hope to attract top class riders for this event, which is the country's first-ever fully fledged and neatly organised event," said CFSL Secretary, Group Captain. Kithsiri Leelaratne 

Organised by SLT, in partnership with and the fullest support of the CFSL, who hope to ensure the race is conducted according to internationally recognised rules and regulations. 

The total distance of the race is 780.5 km, the longest Cycling event to be held in Sri Lanka. 

The men’s event will begin in Colombo and end in Batticaloa, 5 days later, while the women’s event will be limited to a single day, starting from Colombo and finishing in Ambalangoda, a distance of 80 km. 

Women Cyclists may register individually, while men can only register if they are members of a particular Cycle club, by submitting their entries through their respective clubs.

Race Schedule 

Day 1: Colombo - Panadura - Kalutara - Galle - Matara (150.7 km) 

Day 2: Matara - Dikwella - Beliaththa - Embilipitiya - Ratnapura (150 km) 

Day 3: Ratnapura - Avissawella - Ruwanwella - Kegalle - Kandy (127 km) 

Day 4: Kandy - Kurunegala - Padeniya - Anuradhapura (149.8 km) 

Day 5: Anuradhapura - Dambulla - Habarana - Polonnaruwa (106 km) Polonnaruwa - Baticaloa (97 km)

Men: Total value Rs 3.3 million 

Overall 1st: Rs 1 million 

Overall 2nd: Rs 500,000 

Overall 3rd: Rs 300,000 

Overall Sprint Winner: Rs 100,000 

Overall Mountain Winner: Rs 50,000 

Best Young Rider (Under-23): Rs 50,000 

Overall Best Team: Rs 100,000 

Women’s: Total value Rs 575,000 

1st: Rs 200,000 

2nd: Rs 150,000 

3rd: Rs 100,000
