The Dialog Super League Football Tournament which has not seen any action for 4 months, will resume on the weekend of January 7-8, 2017. '
This has been decided upon by the Football Federation of Sri Lanka (FFSL).
The tournament was originally scheduled to end in October, before the commencement of the Cargills Food City FA Cup Tournament.
The Sri Lanka team proceeded to Cambodia for a friendly game in the first week of October.
After which, the Sri Lanka team took part in the AFC Solidarity Cup Tournament during October in Malaysia.
Due to these assignments the Super League tournament came to a halt in September.
It was rescheduled to re-commence on November 12, 13, but due to heavy rain and wet ground conditions, the competition came to a grinding halt.
Now that the weather has improved, but due to the year-ending and Christmas holidays, the competition is re-scheduled to start on the weekend of January 7-8, 2017, with it concluding on the February 11-12, 2017, weekend, said FFSL Chief Executive Officer, Jaswer Umar, to the Sunday Times.
When the contest was halted at the September 3-4 weekend, Blue Star SC Kalutara, SL Air Force SC, Colombo FC, Solid SC Anuradhapura, Renown SC Colombo, New Young SC Wennappuwa, SL Army SC and SL Navy SC were in the running for the Super League title, while all 8 teams had completed a match each, with Solid Anuradhapura and Blue Star Kalutara in the lead at that time.
The winners will receive Rs 700.000, the runners-up Rs 500,000, and third place Rs 300,000.
