Football: Java Lane and Army qualify for FA Cup final

Defending champions SL Army SC and Java Lane SC qualified for the Cargills Food City FA Cup Tournament finals on Saturday (13) at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo. 

The final is scheduled to be played on May 20 at the same venue at 7.30pm. 

SL Army has won the FA Cup on four previous occasions, whilst Java Lane has qualified for the first time in the history of the FA Cup. 

In the first semi-final Sri Lanka Army edged out the leading football club Colombo FC outfit by 3 goals to 2. 

At the breather Army led 2-0. 

Sri Lanka player Mohammed Issadeen banged in three goals, two in the first half, in the 22nd and 25th minutes. 

In the second half he scored the third goal in the 84th minute. 

Colombo FC surged forward in the second half scoring two goals through B.G.A.D.K. de Silva (in the 52nd and 71st minutes). 

In the second semi-final Java Lane beat Saunders 5-3 on penalty kicks after the match ended in a one-all draw at the end of normal time. 

The first goal for Saunders was scored by S. Niresh. 

Java Lane’s goal was by Jude Nicholas in the 74th minute. 672 teams participated in the tournament.
