Sri Lanka will take on Afghanistan in the semi-final clash of the South Asian Football Federation Cup tournament in India today (31).
The match is set to kick off at 6.30pm local time.
If Sri Lanka beats Afghanistan, it will be after 20 years when the Islanders reach the final of the SAFF Cup.
Sri Lanka’s last best was in 2009 when they reached the semi-final stage of this competition.
Afghanistan is in the 150th position while Sri Lanka is far behind at 194th in the world football rankings.
Since 2003 Afghanistan and Sri Lanka have met on seven occasions with five wins being recorded by Afghanistan and Sri Lanka has recorded only a win with the remaining battle settling out in a draw.
In the run-up to the semi-final Sri Lanka beat Nepal and lost against India in the group stages.
The match will be followed by the first semi-final between India and Maldives which kicks off at 3.30pm.
