Trinity College registered a 2 goals to 1 win over Royal College to the third annual football encounter to win the J.R. Jayewardene Trophy at the Royal Sports Complex grounds today (12).
Trinity opened the scoring early in the match with a mesmerizing kick off Chamith de Silva, who netted with a 10-metre shoot in the fifth minute.
Four minutes later, de Silva struck again after taking a pass from mid-field and hit from the right corner to give Trinity a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Royal displayed a defending style of play and they missed a few easy opportunities to score.
On the other hand, Trinity showed an attacking style of play throughout the two halves.
Royal have fielded a strong side which included Sri Lanka Under-19 player Shishan Prabudda, who scored their solitary goal in the 15th minute of the second half.
