Over 200 golfers participated at the Sri Lanka Independence Day Cup Golf Tournament held at the Royal Colombo Golf Club on January 31. The tournament was organised by Wizcraft for Tata Housing in association with SriLankan Airlines and Pernod Ricard Lanka. The tournament was held under four groups for men; the Division ‘A’ 0-19 handicap, Division ‘B’ 10-18 handicap, Division ‘C’ 19-28 handicap and Masters’ Over-55. Foreign diplomats were given special invitation for the tournament where Ambassadors of India, China, Pakistan and Myanmar participated. The tournament commenced with the hoisting of the national flag and lighting the traditional oil lamp by the captain of Royal Colombo Golf Club, Micheal Perera Magala at 6.30 am followed by a shot gun start at 7.30am for 100 players and afternoon shot gun start at 1.30pm for remaining 100 players. Tata Housing Development Company is a key player in real estate development in India, where it is now venturing in to Sri Lanka with real estate township projects in Colombo. The awards ceremony took place at the club where the top five winners were awarded an all-paid golf holiday to one of Asia’s finest golf resorts. The tournament was well received by RCGC members and dignitaries who attended.
