Top seed Taniya Minel Balsuriya cruised to a comfortable 8 and 6 victory over Roshini Sangani, whilst Thuhashin Selvaratnam, Seed 3, beat her mother Suwen Selvaratnam (Seed 6) by the same margin in the quarter-finals of the Sri Lanka Ladies Amateur Championships at the Royal Colombo Golf Club today (9).
The Pakistan young ladies were locked in a titanic battle and on the 2nd Sudden Death hole, 4th seed Ijaz Rimsha beat compatriot Yassmin Ghazala to set-up a semi-final clash with Taniya Minel Balasuriya.
In the bottom half of the match-play draw Thuhashini meets Anouk Chitty, Seed 2, who received a walkover from Ruani Desinghe, Seed 7, in the automatic qualifier draw for the championship.
An intense battle is expected between Thuhashini and Anouk Chitty to reach the final and probably an opportunity to defeat Taniya Minel, who seems invincible in this tournament playing some impeccable golf throughout the week.
However, golf is a funny game and it is the better golfer on the day and Taniya Minel needs to overcome the young and tenacious Ijaz Rimsha to continue her run of success.
