Janashakthi Insurance clinched the Mercantile 'B' Hockey championship by scoring a close victory 3-2 decided on penalties against Commercial Bank at the Astro Turf in Colombo.
Led by Christo Tissera, Janashakthi progressed to the finals by defeating Singer Sri Lanka 1-0 in the semi-finals.
Meeting Commercial Bank in the finals the insurance men had to fight all the way to defend the strong forwards of Commercial Bank.
With the bankmen taking an early lead 1-0 and it was the equaliser by Janashakthi skipper Christo Tissera who led from the front took the game to a close with the score standing 1-1.
The team's strengths proved to be crucial on the field as every member of the side playing their part in the final outing.
At the deciding penalty shoot-outs Janashakthi's Gihan Peiris's skills helped them to emerged winners with a 3-2 lead to be crowned as Mercantile 'B' Division Hockey champs.
The victorious Janashakthi Insurance was represented by Christo Tissera (Captain), Lushantha Perera, Malinda Pushpakumara, Chatura Jayathunge, A.R.P. Sandaruwan, Susantha Dissanayake, Udara Gintota, Laxmananraj Ganeshkumar, Tharindu Ranaweera, Nadun Rambukpotha, Gihan Peiris, Selvakumar, CHamara Dharmawardene, Sath Rathnaweera.
