S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia clinched the 4th annual Eric Hulangamuwa Challenge Shield beating St. Thomas' College Matale at the Astro Turf in Colombo on Saturday (3).
In the main event--the U-20 match, the boys from the school by the sea registered a close 1-0 win after Rahal Rambukpotha scooped the ball to the net in the 14th minute in the first half.
Neither team could find the net in the second half but players from the hill capital will rue missing at least three chances in the second half.
Devmith Udage was adjudged the most outstanding player of the match.
S. Thomas’ continued their dominance in the Under-16 final beat their rivals 2-0.
The winner took a early lead when Mohammed Abdulla Iflan scored a goal before Dulmith Perera hit the second goal in the 22nd minute to take lemons at 2-0. In the second session none of the team failed to score.
St. Thomas Matale won the Old Boys match with a comfortable 2-0 win. Charith Dissanayake found the net twice in the 22nd and 25th minute respectively to lead his side a commanding win.
Former Sri Lanka cricket skipper Anura Tennakoon was the Chief Guest.
St. Thomas’ Matale leads the tally 2-1.
Boys from Matale won the first two ties with the third tie ending on nil all.
