Old Vijayans Sports Club posted a thrilling one goal to nil win over Zahira SC to emerge champions in the Matale District Inter-Club Knockout Hockey Tournament concluded at Edward Park in Matale.
In the third minute of play forward H.S.B Costa fired the one and only goal to seal 1-0 win for Old Vijayans SC.
In the run up to the final old Vijayans SC (Kalana Ananda 3, Sapugasgodage and Milan Ariyawansha 2 each and H.S.B. Costa 1) beat Christ Church SC (T.K. Wickremaratne 1) by 8-1 while Zahira SC (M. Arshad and R.T Ahamed 1 each) beat Matale sports club (E.D. Wijeyrathna 1) by 2-1 in the respective semi-finals.
Six teams -- Malwaththa SC, Park SC, Christ Church SC, Zahira SC, Old Vijayans SC and Matale SC -- participated in the inter club hockey tournament conducted by Matale Hockey Association.
