Vidyartha college Kandy and Seetha Devi girls Kandy lifted boys and girls hockey titles at the second Kandy Hockey Sixes 2018 for boys and girls Under-16 concluded at Peradeniya University ground.
In the boys final Vidyartha outplayed defending champions Dharmaraja college on 4 - 1 penalties after a nil all draw at full time, while defending champions Seethadevi girls defeated Mahamaya Kandy by 3-0 in the girls final to retain the title for the second year.
For the girls champions Dilhani Rajapakse claimed two goals and Amasha Bandara one.
The tournament conducted by Kandy HA together with Seetha Devi SC Kandy saw six boys teams from Dharmaraja, Vidyartha, St. Sylvester's, Kingswood, Trinity, St. Anthony's Katugastota and six girls teams from Mahamaya, St. Anthony’s Girl’s School, Pushpadana, Swarnamali, Seetha Devi and Girls high school Kandy taking part in the two day tournament.
K.K. Dissanayake of Vidyartha won the award for the boy’s best player while the best goalkeeper award went to V.K. Walahavita of Vidyartha Kandy.
Amasha Bandara of Seetha Devi girl’s school was named the girls’ best player while Kheshika Gurudeniya also of Seetha Devi girls was the best goalkeeper.
Athula Jayawardhana deputy director of education (sports) Central province graced the presentation ceremony as the chief guest.
