Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Selection Committee has decided to appoint Lasith Malinga as the captain of the 4th ODI against India which will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Thursday (31).
Malinga's appointment comes after stand-in skipper Chamara Kapugedara was ruled out of the 4th ODI due to an injury.
According to SLC sources Kapugedara has developed a stiffness in his back and that affirms his unavailability for the 4th ODI on Thursday.
Test captain Dinesh Chandimal too was ruled out for 10 days after experiencing a hairline fracture during the 3rd ODI.
However, according to international media Kapugedara was forcefully rested following the wrong decision he took, to bat after winning the toss in the 3rd ODI.
It was revealed that Sri Lanka had decided to field first had they won the toss but Kapugedara made the choice to bat, after which the host nation suffered a series defeat 3-0 in the five-match series.
