Junior Cricket: Avishka Fernando named best Under-17 player for 2014

Avishka Fernando, the Sri Lanka Under-19 and St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa allrounder was named the Best Player of the Tournament in the Inter-School Under-17 Cricket Tournament 2014 at the Singer Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Awards Ceremony held at the Bishops College Auditorium last Thursday (5).   Fernando had scored 948 runs in 12 matches during the Under-17 tournament, inclusive of a double century, three centuries and five half-centuries in addition to maintaining an average of over 100 runs per innings.   Junior cricketers who excelled in Under-17 Division I and Under-15 Division I and II tournaments in 2014 also received awards.   Under-17 Division I Tournament award winners   Best Player: Avishka Fernando (St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa)   Best Allrounder:   Winner: Sammu Ashan (Ananda Colleg)   Runner-up: Hasitha Boyagoda (Trinity College)   Best Bowler:   Winner: Kavishka Anjula (Ananda College)   Runner-up: Chanaka Devinda (Lumbini College)   Best Batsman:   Winner: Avishka Fernando (St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa)   Runner-up: Kamindu Mendis (Richmond College)   Under-15 Division I Tournament award winners   Best Player: Sajith Sameera (S.de S.
