Alawathugoda Central College in Kandy with a tally of 16 Medals secured the third place at the Samurai Shito open Karate Championship 2017 concluded recently at Jayathilaka indoor sports complex Nawalapitiya.
The 25 members Karate team (boys and girls) won two Gold medals, five Silver medals and nine Bronze medals at this competition organised and conducted by A.J.K Shitokai Karate association Kandy.
Akira Karate association of Nawalapitiya was placed first while A.J.K Shitokai Karate association Kandy finished second followed by Alawathugoda Central Karate association third.
The fourteen year old P.G. De Mel won the first place in Kumite to bag a Gold medal while A.G.D.M. Karunarathna won a Gold medal for his first place in U/13 Kata event.

This is a significant achievement for this school situated in the Katugasthota education zone, which started the sport only four months ago in January this year 2017.
